Letter Carrier Benefit Upstaged By Engagement Announcement

On an evening that was a make up date for the benefit held for Owen And Diane McGuire, the warm air of spring welcomed everyone and set the tone for a great night. On January 14, 2010 a fire struck the home of the benficiaries. The original date was for february 26, 2010. Unfortunately, that was the week of one our many snow storms this dreadful winter (already so far behind us and so easy to forget). The good part is the make up date was held on a night that was perfect weather and a symbol of our spring awakening.

Arriving at the Polonia Hall, I could not help but be very impressed with not only the facility but the great turnout and organization of the event. There were amny door prizes, raffles, etc. The good thing was that the Branch 725 table which consisted of Martin Ferris and his family, Andrew And Barbara Kearney, and Eric K. Jackson won twice.

The food was good and plentyful. The company was exellent (mostly Union as both the McGuires belong to unions). And the music and dance floor made for a busy place.

However, towards the end of the night the son of the beneficiaries, Owen McGuire stood up on the stage and did it with his gilfriend. No, not the nasty, but the honorable act of proposing to marry his girlfriend, Krista Fetsick in front of a delighted crowd. All of a sudden, it's hard to think about the snow, the fire, or all the hard work it took to set up this function. Young, unrequited love in all it's innocence has a way of taking us all back. In any form, love is always hopeful and as pure as the new spring flowers that have broken through the ground to let us all know that life always has new beginings.

Here's to Owen McGuire Sr., Jr., Diane and Krista. May your new beginings measure up to all your dreams.
