What Is COLCPE?

FOLSOM, PA. - The Postal Service loves acronyms and sometimes we fall into the same trap as a Union. Acronyms are great if everyone knows what they are but in most cases it confuses more people then those that understand. Still, we go about using them even when talking to our members and wonder why we don't get the message through. You all know what DPS, DOIS and MRP's are even if you don't know what their acronyms spell out. Well I think it is time to spell our one of our own. COLCPE. It stands for:

Committe
On
Lettter
Carrier
Political
Education

A lot of you don't know that with this money we are able to do all the work we do to promote our wishes to our Politicians and also educate our members on issues that are vital to their job safety. What too many people think is we use Union dues to support Poiticians that support us. Not one dime comes from your Union dues. It is COLCPE that affords us the money to do what we do. Why contribute? Isn't it just a payoff to Politicians? No, not really. It isn't so much a payoff as a show of support. Political runs cost money and they need to find funds somewhere. There are guidlines to ensure that too much influence is gathered this way but the Republicans find ways to circumvent this and big business is their biggest target. If we don't support the costs of Politicians then who are they going to support when something comes up. And then when our members don't even vote half the time what difference does it make. COLCPE is a complete package. We educate our members on the issues and Politicians and tell them who we are supporting and why. Then we just cross our fingers and hope you all take the time to vote. Because, if you do, with the information we have given you the Politiicians we supported will win. Not because we gave them money as some of you think but because of the whole ideal of COLCPE. Education is the last letter but the first in our thoughts.
